INDIA Successfully Test Fired Nuclear Capable AGNI-5 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile
On Sunday India successfully test fired its own AGNI-5 Intercontinental Ballistic missile which is indigenously developed by state owned DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organisation). The missile was launched from the the Dr. Abdul Kalam Azad island off the Odisha coast.
The missile is long range intercontinental ballistic missile and capable of carrying nuclear warhead with the strike range of 5000 km. AGNI-5 is a long range intercontinental ballistic surface-to-surface missile. The missile was launched with the help mobile launcher from the Integrated Test Range(ITR).
This was the 6th trial of the state-of-the-art missile. The missile covered its full distance in projected trajectory "It is a complete success" defence sources said.
The missile is most advanced with new technologies in terms of navigation and guidance, warhead and engine in its class, said the officials.
Radars, Tracking instrument are used to check the flight performance of the missile along with observation stations.
Many new home grown technologies were also successfully tested in the trial like, Navigation System, very high accuracy Ring Laser Gyro based inertial Navigation System(RINS) and accurate Micro Navigation System(MINS).
The missile is 17 meter tall and weigh about 1.5 tonnes. It requires less maintenance and is highly reliable as compared to other missiles. The missile also has enhanced mobility.
AGNI-5 comes up with high speed on-board computer. It also has its own fault tolerant software along with robust and reliable bus.
Besides this, DRDO is also working on AGNI-6 variant of missile which can carry multiple warhead at once and will be more lethal than its previous variant.
